Termination of Service Agreement with Cable Operator

Have you tried to terminate a service agreement with a cable operator? Some cable companies treat termination as a right you should never have: Threats of destroying the existing system (and your development during the process), turning the services off to your residents without warning, and even encouraging residents to move to other developments have all been leveled by providers in an effort to "encourage" property owners to extend existing contracts.

Unfortunately, it seems that some providers have become even more aggressive as they grow in size and the number of their competitors has diminished – some even attempt to renegotiate an agreement mid-term in an effort to reduce the revenue that will become due to property owners.

Our cable practice group is familiar with these tactics. Fortunately, some protection from such threats can be found in Federal Communications Commission regulations. Other defenses, however, can only be established through early planning and a thorough understanding of the communication industry's own pressure points.

If you are considering the termination of an existing provider agreement, our unique understanding of these issues could be the advantage you'll need. We can examine your existing agreement, recommend an exit strategy, and help you anticipate and deal with responses from the provider. Call us at (248) 723-0426 or fill in the "Contact Us" section on the firm's homepage and we will be in touch with you soon.
